Do I need to create both tickets and attendee types?
The short answer is no!

You don't need to create both tickets and attendee types to run your event successfully on Canapii.
At a minimum, you do need to create at least one ticket, as this is how your audience registers for your event.
Creating multiple tickets, or adding attendee types, are traditionally used for larger more complex engagements.

Tickets are how you define registration paths. For example, you may wish some tickets to be free and others to be paid for.
Attendee types are how you define personalized user journeys. For example, you may wish to hide or show certain event elements to different types of attendees.
